Republic Day is a national holiday in India celebrated on January 26th every year to mark the day when the Constitution of India came into effect in 1950, replacing the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of India. The Constitution was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 26th November 1949 and was came into effect on 26 January 1950 with a majority of 184 votes in favor and none against it, making India the world's most populous democracy. On this day, a grand parade is held in the capital, New Delhi, where various cultural and social groups from all over the country participate and display their cultural heritage. The President of India also gives a speech on this day and there is also a parade by the armed forces. It is a day to honor the Constitution of India and all those who have contributed to its making.
